Baby-to-Be: A couple of maternity photos

My friend Alisha Silver took these for us. She has a great website: http://www.alishasilverphotography.com

The Nursery

The nursery theme is based on a book of poems from the 1920's by Mary Cicely Barker called Flower Fairies of the Garden. My (Amelia's) mom used to read the book to me when I was a little girl, so decorating the nursery with this theme was a way to incorporate some of Grandma Bette into Maya's life. I framed pictures from the book of little ballerina-like fairies holding various flowers and painted a small garden mural. Sophia (Maya's Yia-Yia) bought some other flower fairy decorations too! The wall paint color is even called fairy dust.
A poem from the book which seemed appropriate to write above the crib. (Hope you can read it)

Bathtime with Nana and Poppy

I love my grandparents, but I haven't decided how I feel about baths.
My daddy sure loves me. I think he's pretty great.
Crazy hair!

Maya: The Early Days

We love our new little family!

A lot has happened since these first couple of weeks! Maya now smiles and cooes (which melts our hearts) and has flipped over during tummy time onto her back twice (which makes us nervous--hopefully she won''t flip onto her tummy until she's really ready!).

Already making eye contact!

Aunt Susan and Uncle Scott meet Maya.
Welcome Home, Maya Jane!!
Poppy played with Aiden at the hospital.
Aiden brought his panda chair to sit in and a DVD to watch during his visit.
I love my Auntie Em! (or Aunt Emmy..I'm not sure what I'm going to call her yet).

A Look Back- The night of delivery

Baby Maya's last few hours within the comfort of mommy's belly. (Photo taken between contractions, of course).

Joe had a minute to snap a self portrait expressing his feelings about going to the hospital.

4 Weeks Old!

Aiden is a great "big cousin" and takes care of Maya by bringing her a passy or blanket and offering to share his dessert with her despite frequent reminders that she only drinks milk. :) Today he voluntarily sang her "Jesus Loves Me" when she was getting fussy.

Maya successfully gets herself out of every swaddling blanket we own (and then cries to be reswaddled), so we took our pediatrician's advice and cut an old sheet in half so there is plenty of fabric to wrap around her. Like magic, she still somehow manages to kick her way out, so Joe calls her "Baby Houdini". I think the rust-colored sheet makes her look like a little sweet potato.

Gas or Glee?
They say babies don't smile this early, but sometimes Maya looks us right in the eyes when we're talking to her and makes some pretty convincing expressions!

In case you can't read the writing on my onesie, it says,
"This is my little black dress." Every girl needs one.

Mommy calls this my "Minnie Mouse" hair bow.
She bought it so Daddy can do my hair.

Snuggling with Mommy...we're both tired.
